You know what they say about the best laid plans. I had big plans for World Card Making Day, which was yesterday, but my plans changed and I had a fun day helping my niece make a birthday present for her Dad. I started this post last week and intended on posting it yesterday. It’s never too late to celebrate though, so I’m posting it a day late.

Did you know that October 4, 2014 is World Card Making Day? Started in 2006 by Paper Crafts Magazine as National Card Making Day, the enthusiasm and celebration of creativity spread world wide. It is celebrated on the first Saturday in October. That day was chosen as a time when crafters begin working on handmade cards for the holiday season. Paper Crafts Magazine started the unofficial holiday as a way for card makers to connect with family and friends to enjoy the hobby. Now other companies have joined in the celebration.

Since I really need to make some cards, I asked my scrappy friends if they knew of any companies that were having Blog Hops, Challenges, or Contests. Special events always seem to get me motivated! Jackie with Kreate With Me 2 told me that Kraftin’ Kimmie Stamps was having challenges. The great thing is that you have until October 12th to post your projects, so that gives me a week to work on cards. Go take a look at the challenge themes and prizes. They are really awesome, and you can use any brands of projects. Paper Crafts Magazine has free fonts listed on their blog and a contest that ends on Monday, October 6th at 5pm. All you have to do is comment on a post and you could be a winner! The World Card Making Day Website is giving away 15 HUGE prize packages to celebrate. Entries must be postmarked by October 14th. Their website also has information on how the holiday got started and the benefits of card making. Even though I didn’t get to make any cards yesterday, I’m hoping to get something accomplished this week. I hope you’re able to find the time for some craftiness of your own!
