It’s the most wonderful time of the year!   You didn’t just read that, you sang that, didn’t you?

I’m really a spring and summer person, but I do love Christmas.  There’s such a magical feeling in the air with all of the bright lights, and glittery decorations.

There are so many fun things about Christmas.  When I was young, my brothers and I couldn’t wait for the Kids’ Christmas Shows to come on TV.  We waited patiently after eating dinner for Rudolph, Frosty, and Charlie Brown.

My Mom loves Christmas movies, and the first “adult” Christmas Movie that I remember watching was Miracle on 34th Street.  Of course, back then it was in black and white.  Yes, Millenials…..there was a time when movies were NOT in color!

When I was invited to join the 25 Christmas Movies Blog Hop, no one had chosen Miracle on 34th Street yet.  I was really surprised. After all, it is a classic and one of the most popular “old” Christmas movies.

Since the movie is set in the 1940’s, I wanted to make Christmas ornaments with a vintage feel.

While browsing in an antique shop, I found some small green glass bottles.  Two were round from the front with flat sides, and one was bell shaped.

I remembered some really cool Salt and Pepper Shaker Christmas Ornaments by Duct Tape and Demin, and it gave me the idea to turn the pretty green bottles into ornaments.

Supplies Needed

• Small bottles – I found these at an antique store.  They also had some clear ones, but I really liked the green ones.  I’m not sure if they are really old or if they are reproductions, but they only cost $1.00 each.
• 20 Gauge Decorative wire – I used brass wire, because I like how it looked with the green, but you could use silver wire instead.  I used 20 Gauge.  I wouldn’t use wire that’s any thinner.
• Assorted beads
• Needle Nose Pliers or Jewelry Pliers

Instructions for Vintage Bottle Ornaments

These instructions are going to be vague.  I had to kinda “wing it”.  Yeah, I know these are technical crafty terms!

I could picture in my head what I wanted the ornaments to look like, and honestly I just played with the wire until I had something I liked.

For the bottle with the spiral on the front, thicker wire may have held the bottle a little better.  I started by working the wire into a loose coil in my hands.  Then I held it flat to the glass and brought the wire under the bottom of the bottle.

When I got to the neck of the bottle, I coiled the wire tightly around the neck 5 times.  Then I added a few beads.  Using a pencil, I wrapped the wire a few times and added a few additional beads.  Using the needle nose pliers, I made a loop in the end of the wire.

You can either use an ornament hanger to hand it on your tree or you can make a hook out of matching wire.  I like the idea of my hanger matching so I made an “S” shaped hook with looks in both ends so it doesn’t come off.

For the Bell Shaped bottle, I wrapped wire around the bottom so that it cradles the bottle.

One of the ornaments has a long hanger.  Wrapping the wire around the pencil made a nice even spiral.  Try wrapping around things with different thicknesses to get different effects.

I randomly added beads and another section by looping the ends of the wire together.

I took my bottle ornaments outside to photograph them in my holly tree.  They would look great hanging on my patio in he summer!  I see another bottle craft in my future.
