Pallet Snowman Craft

November 26, 2017 by Pam Larmore 4 Comments

DIY Pallet Crafts are so trendy right now, and I’m jumping on the bandwagon.  Since the supplies for the base are free with the exception of some manual labor, these are also budget friendly for decoration and for gifts.  This Pallet Snowman Craft would also be a great project to sell at Craft Fairs.

Keep reading to get the instructions for how to make this great Snowman Craft.

My friend, Steph has access to free pallets.  Who doesn’t like free, right?  Her husband broke them down, and use the slats to make wood plaques.   They are the perfect size for a home decor project, and this snowman is so cute on it!

Pallet Snowman Instructions

Sand any rough edges on your pallet.  If you want a really rough look, you don’t have to sand it at all, but watch for splinters.

I made a stencil using my Cricut Maker Machine.  A search in Cricut Design Space brought up lots of choices.  This snowman was actually a tag.  I enlarged it to fit on the pallet.

Since I was using the vinyl as a stencil and not a decal, it didn’t matter what color it was.  I had this piece of pink in my stash.  It was wrinkled, but since I’m going to peel it off when I’m done, I knew it wouldn’t matter.

Use application or transfer tape to stick the snowman to the pallet.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Ultra Clear Transfer Tape from Expressions Vinyl.    It let’s you see exactly where you’re placing your decal or stencil.  No more paper transfer tap for me.

You’ll have to take your time removing the transfer tape.  Rough surfaces are more of a challenge that smooth ones.

After you have the stencil stuck to the pallet, you’re ready to paint.  You can use a stencil brush or an old paintbrush.  I had a fluffy paintbrush in my tool tote, and it worked perfectly.

DON’T get too much paint on your brush.  I dipped my brush in the paint, and then dabbed some of it off before painting on the stencil.  If you get too much paint, it will run under the stencil.  If you don’t get enough paint the first dab, you can always add more.

I dabbed around the outside of the circle to create a frame.  When I was finished, I peeled off the stencil.  The thickness of my circle in some spots was uneven, so I touched it up.

And that’s all there was to it!  This was one of the easiest Cricut Projects that I’ve made, but I love how it turned out.
