Hi, I am Habiba from Germany and Pam was so generous to let me guest post for her today! This is a huge thing for me as I am a baby blogger over at Craftify My Love and haven’t had many of those opportunities yet.
I’d love to show you how I managed to bring some of my latest vacation memories into my day to day life by creating a personalized photo bookmark.
You know, I read a lot, and I am horrible with numbers. So there is nooooo way I can memorize the page I stopped reading. Also I don’t like to bend book pages like some people do. And I love to surround myself with pretty things (YASS, give me all the pretty things #IAmInLove), so a receipt or a slip of white paper won’t work for me either, sorry!
As I am also a person who makes a gazillion photos whenever, and I found a man who is even worse, this got me thinking: What to do with all the photos we took on our first trip together? I really want to hold on to and be reminded of all the memories we made in the Netherlands together in this hectic day to day life.
And all of a sudden the idea for a Vacation Memory Photo Bookmark was born!
Supplies For Photo Bookmark
- A piece of sturdy craft paper – preferably with a nice pattern on both sides
- ribbon in a matching color (psssst…I’ll be sharing a frugal tip on how to get ribbon for free further down)
- your favorite tools to measure and cut paper (I went old school and used my cutting mat, ruler and my X-ACTO knife)
- glue stick
- hole punch
- your favorite photos (I used 4)
- printer
- scissors
2 Simple Steps to Your Own Memory Photo Bookmark
1. Creating your photo collage
Choose four photos that transport memories you want to be reminded of on a daily basis. Open your computer and find either Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, a photo editing program or anything the like. I used a photo of the beach dunes as a background and cut it to 5 x 14 cm (198 x 539 pixel or 2 x 5,5 inches).
I added three photos of Markus and me and gave them a matching frame. You might want to leave a little bit more space in the top of the collage for the hole you’ll be punching there in a minute. Because you probably don’t want the punch to go through one of your photos, duh!
Once you’re happy with your collage, print it out and cut it to size.
2. Assembling your bookmark
Now go find all your other supplies. Cut a piece of that colorful sturdy crafting paper to size. You might want to make it about one centimeter wider and taller than your collage. This way your lovely paper will be seen from the front side of the bookmark, too. I used a paper with a red and blue pattern on the back and a simple blue on the front. I didn’t want the pattern to divert from my lovely photos.
Using a glue stick or one of them roller glues, fix your collage to your crafting paper. Using a hole punch you’ll punch a hole 😉 into the top of the bookmark.
Now, I promised you a frugal tip to find ribbon for free, right?
So here goes: I tend to cut the hanger straps from my shirts and pullovers and save them in a big ol’ plastic jar. When I started doing that, they only came in black and white. Lately the clothes companies started sewing them in in the most adorable colors, matching the garment. Perfect! I am tell you!!!!
I wasn’t happy with the previously decided on format of my bookmark so I simply cut some excess off. Cut your strands of ribbon to the same length (I used three different colors) and thread them through your previously punched hole. Make a knot. Done!
Now, step back and admire your work!
Do you like what you see? I sure do! And I like it some more every time I open my book: I read mostly at night before I go to bed. On the weekend I really love to bring a cup of tea to bed and start my day reading a couple chapters #bliss. Do you have any reading habits? Tell me all about them!
