Using the Cricut to Make a Stencil With the Doodlecharms Cartridge

Using Cricut as a stencil doodlecharms cartridge

Have you ever used your Cricut to make a stencil?  I have, but I don’t think about doing it very often.  I saw a challenge on Monday over at Bitten By The Bug 2, so I thought I would give it a shot.  Here is the card that I came up with.

I used the Doodlecharms Cricut Cartridge to cut the scalloped heart on a piece of scrap paper.  Since I knew I was going to be inking the stencil, I didn’t cut it right to the edge.  I wanted some excess paper around the outside.  Then I positioned my stencil onto white paper.  I held it with my hand, but it would have been easier if I had used  masking tape to hold it.

I used a shade of purple and Calypso Coral ink from Stampin’ Up and lightly sponged the stencil.  Start off lightly.  You can always make it darker.  I did the top half in purple and the bottom in coral and blended them in the middle.  When I thought I had it dark enough, I raised the stencil to see how it looked.  One side was rather light and I didn’t go to the edge, so I put the stencil back down and added a little more ink.

While the stencil was still in place, I use the wildflowers in the Best of Flowers Stampin’ Up Set to stamp several times on the bottom of the heart.  I reinked each time I stamped, because I wanted it to be a bold black.

I stamped Hello My Friend in purple in the lower right corner.  The stamp is from Unity Stamp Co.  I used the Stampin’ Up Inverted Corner to punch the edges and added the pearls in the cut outs.

I’m please with how it turned out.  I love using my Cricut, yet it was something completely different from what I usually do.

Do you ever use your Cricut to cut stencils?  I really like cutting monograms with adhesive vinyl and using etching cream on glass.
