Are you tired of hearing about my “New Cricut Maker” yet?  I’m pretty sure if I had to choose just one craft for the rest of my life, it would be this awesome Cricut Machine.    Not only is it fun, but the things that it can cut is amazing!

I wanted to make a Felt Christmas Stocking that I could use to hold silverware at a place setting for a dinner party.  Whenever I think about cutting felt into shapes, I have flashbacks to school or 4-H when they wanted you to cut felt with kid’s scissors.  You know what I’m talking about!  It was so frustrating.

The Cricut Maker cuts as easy as a pair of Gingher scissors slices through fabric, but it can cut intricate shapes and holes and details inside of the shapes.

Materials need for Felt Christmas Stocking

  • Black Felt
  • Burgundy Felt
  • Small piece of white felt
  • Thick Tacky Glue
  • Black Button
  • Thin White Ribbon
  • Cricut Maker with Rotary Blade
  • Cricut Access Standard

Instructions

  1. In Cricut Design Space, search for Stocking.  There are several to choose from.  I like this one that had the scalloped border on it.  Since I wanted this to be an actual stocking, I cut two bases out of black.
  2. Search snowflakes and find one that you like to decorate the front of your stocking.
  3. Cut out all of your pieces with the Maker.  See how tiny some of the details are on the snowflake?  Isn’t that amazing?  And no hand cutting!
  4. Use thick tacky glue on the edges of the black felt to create the stocking leaving the hole at the top.  If you sew, you could hand sew a blanket stitch to keep your stocking together.
  5. Glue the burgundy details on the stocking, and the black cuff at the top.
  6. Glue the snowflake on the center.
  7. To finish your stocking, tie a white ribbon through your button holes and make a knot.
  8. Glue your button to the center of the snowflake.

That’s all there is to it.  I also cut the black place mat under plate out of black felt to match the stocking.  See how the Maker cut out the holes?  You can’t do that with scissors!

Plan a Craft Party with Oriental Trading

December 1, 2017 by Pam Larmore Leave a Comment

I love spending time with family and friends, especially during the holidays.  It’s often difficult to find the time to squeeze fun activities, but I planned a fun crafting party for my daughter, my Mom, my Aunt, and our friend.  We had the best time!

You will want to plan a craft party soon after you see how much fun we had.

Plan a Crafting Party with Oriental Trading. I purchased all of the craft supplies from Oriental Trading, and we made 3 craft projects. They have a huge selection to choose from and they have paper party goods too. #orientaltrading #craftparty #christmascrafts #kidscrafts

Oriental Trading sponsored this post by providing free products. All opinions are my own. If you make a purchase after clicking the links in this post, I will receive a commission.

Planning a Craft Party super easy with Oriental Trading.  They have everything you need. I love one stop shopping.

Their group crafts come in kits with all of the supplies and instructions.  The only other things we needed were thick craft glue and needle nose pliers.

Here’s what I ordered for my Craft Party

All of these items came from Oriental Trading.

  • Solid Red Plates
  • Define “Good” Plates
  • Christmas Calories Don’t Count napkins
  • Christmas Tablecloth
  • Elf Glasses
  • Cork Reindeer Christmas Ornaments
  • Snowflake Earrings

We started our party by making the Elf ears.  There is sticky adhesive on the backs of the foam pieces, so no glue was needed.  These are so CUTE!

We enjoyed making and wearing them, but they would be perfect for a kids’ party.  Need a project for girl scouts, 4-H, or a classroom?  This would be my top pick.

The next craft we made were these pretty snowflake earrings.  Everyone at the party were crafters, but none of us really make jewelry.   The pieces are small and putting the beads on headpins was tedious.  Keep that in mind when choosing your crafts.

The cork reindeer Christmas Ornaments were a big hit.  If we had tried to collecting the corks we needed for this craft project, they wouldn’t have been the right size.  You need small ones for his legs.

The eyes and mouth are already drawn on.  The cork is really hard, and it was difficult to get the wooden stick  into them.  We got it though, and that was the only problem we had.  If your craft party is all adults, it won’t be a problem, but if there are kids they will need help.

Tips for Planning a Craft Party

  • Choose crafts that fit the age level of your guests.
  • Keep in mind how long the crafts will take.  If you have a longer time for your party, you can offer more crafts projects.
  • Consider the amount of space you have.  You don’t want to be too crowded.
  • Choose a variety of crafts that will appeal to everyone.
  • See if you need any supplies that aren’t included in the kits.
  • Cover your table with a plastic tablecloth, drop cloth, or newspaper for easy clean up.
  • Paper plates come in handy for paint, keeping supplies together, and organizing each guests project.
  • Put a small container in the center of the table for trash.
  • Keep food simple.  You don’t want to spend all of your time preparing and serving food.  We ordered pizza and had light snacks.

Here’s the “Craftermath”.  We used a clear plastic table cloth, so this mess was super easy to clean up.  The green Halloween pumpkin in the center of the table was our trashcan.  Don’t judge!  haha!

The elf glasses are really for kids, but I knew that my whacky family and friends would love them.  We made them first to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.  I knew they would make for fun selfies too.

This was such a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon with family and friends.  We laughed and relaxed before being bombarded by holiday chores.   They are hoping that I will hold another crafting party soon.

Start a new tradition with the kids.  Oriental Trading has pages and pages of easy kids crafts, not only for Christmas, but for all holidays and occasions.

I’m already planning an Easter Crafting Party, and they can’t wait!

I wanted to make an easy decoration to go on a friend’s desk at work.   Since this Dollar Tree Project doesn’t even require glue, it’s the perfect craft.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

  • Two round clear glass bowls
  • Snowman hat Christmas ornament
  • Fake snow
  • Small Christmas figurines
  • Small piece of fleece

Did you know that you can shop online with Dollar Tree?  It’s great this time of year when many of your favorite decorations and supplies go out of stock.

Here’s how easy it is to make.

It doesn’t get any easier than that!  I put that together in less than 5 minutes.  Kids could make these too, but I wouldn’t recommend using that type of snow with kids.  I had a nice mess.  I can’t image what kids would do!

Our First Christmas Together Tree Ornament

My daughter and son-in-law got married in May.  It was a gorgeous outside wedding at a local winery.  Her colors were a beautiful summer Malibu Blue and gray.

I used rhinestone brooches that were in my daughter's bridal bouquet to make this keepsake that they will cherish forever.

My friend did the flowers, and they were breath taking.  My daughter’s bouquet was fresh blue and white roses with sparkly rhinestone brooches.   She also put the brooches in the mothers’ corsages.

We saved the brooches, but I wasn’t sure what I to do with them.  My first thought was that they would be beautiful on handmade cards.

When we announced the Bling On The Holidays Blog Hop, those brooches immediately came to mind.  I wanted to create a special Christmas Ornament that Mike and Katie will be able to remember for years to come.

I used rhinestone brooches that were in my daughter's bridal bouquet to make this keepsake that they will cherish forever.

I wasn’t sure what type of ornament would work best with the brooches.  I was originally thinking a flat ornament that was either a wreath or tree shaped.  With the brooches being so big though, the ornament I had in mind was too big and heavy.

I was cruising through heaven…..I mean Michael’s, and spotted this wooden Christmas Ornament with flat sides.  I knew that it would work perfectly, and I would be able to add touches of silver glitter, the rhinestone brooches, and have room for their names and wedding date.

The flat sides of this wooden Christmas ornament aren’t very big.  I wasn’t sure how I was going to fit their names in a 2″ x 2 1/2″ space.

I was hoping that my Cricut Explore would cut a font that small, but the first font that I tried was too detailed.  Then I tried this font called Elegant Cake.  I still couldn’t get the whole date to cut the way I wanted, so I settled for just the year.

Christmas Ornament Instructions

  1. Paint the wooden ornament with white craft paint.  I did two layers.
  2. I used a Silver Wink of Stella pen to add shimmer to the balls on the top and bottom of the ornament.  Before this project, I had only used Wink of Stella on paper, but the tiny brush tip was perfect for for getting into that tiny spot where the ball meets the ornament.
  3. Using the Cricut Explore, I added my daughter and son-in-law’s names on one side and 2016 on the other side.
  4. I cut the rhinestone trim to size and attached it with thick tacky glue.
  5. After cutting the pin backs off of the brooches with wire cutters, I attached them with thick tacky glue.
  6. To finish the ornament, I glued the blue rhinestone trim to thin blue satin ribbon.  After it dried, I thread it through the hook and tied a knot in the end.

I love how this First Christmas Together Ornament turned out.  It’s a treasure that the new couple will cherish for years to come.
