Today I have something a little different to share with you. I have a tutorial for a Decorated Picture Frame for Your Bathroom.
This is not the ordinary handmade card or Cricut post, but I did use pretty scrapbook paper and the Cricut Explore.
My friend, Stephanie, has had some stressful days lately. She has a beautiful bathroom with a soaking tub that she uses to escape the everyday world.
I thought I would make her something to go in her bathroom to remind her to relax and to let her know that I was thinking about her.
I would kill to have Stephanie’s bathroom. From the plush towels to the Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft and Strong® with Cleanstretch (9 Mega Rolls) that she found at Walmart, the whole room is for pampering.
The Quilted Northern® Ultra Soft and Strong® with Cleanstretch mega pack offers the opportunity to keep your home fully stocked and organized at all times so that you’re always ready for sudden guests or last minute get-togethers.
Mega is a 4X bigger roll (*than the regular rolls) so you’re not worried about refilling the roll! When all you want to do is relax, who has time to refill toilet paper?
Quilted Northern® is a 100 year old brand that you can purchase at Walmart.
How To Make this DIY Picture Frame
Here are step-by-step instructions on making this picture frame. Thrift stores, yard sales, and consignment shops are great places to look for frames to upcycle.
This was a really easy project and can be completed by a beginner in an afternoon. Not counting drying time for the paint, you could finish this frame in an hour.
We have a really nice Goodwill here that is well stocked with things to upcycle, distress, or reuse.
I’ve gotten rubber stamps, stickers, and kids craft kits there, but on this particular day I was looking for a picture frame to redo.
I wanted a wooden frame that was smallish (no larger than 8×10 inches) and wide enough for a few decorations.
I found this great frame for $4.99. It even had the glass and a back that would come off easily. They had 4 of them in different sizes. I’m probably going to kick myself for not buying all of them.
Disassemble the frame, taking the back off and remove the glass.
The “Love You Grandma” was sweet, but I didn’t want it on my frame. To get this DIY Picture Frame started, I sanded off the words and the smooth varnish. I used a fine grade sandpaper, and it came off easily.
I applied 2 coats of dark gray chalk paint, letting the first coat dry for 2 hours before applying the second coat. After the second coat dried, I lightly sanded over the chalk paint.
It gave the picture frame a smoother finish, and it distressed the frame a little bit. If you want a more distressed look, you can sand it more to show the light color under the paint.
Am I the last crafter on earth to try Chalk Paint??? I like it, and I’m already scouring Pinterest for more chalk paint projects.
My friend’s bathroom has wonderful rich shades of neutral colors. I leafed through my scrapbook papers until I found the perfect pattern of scrapbook paper in off white and tan.
I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to 5×7 inches to put into the frame. Then, I reassembled the frame, put the glass back in, and attached the back.
I had these really pretty velour dogwood flowers and leaves. The colors compliment the scrapbook paper so well.
I laid out the flowers and leaves first, to see how I wanted to arrange them. Then, I attached them with a glue gun.
I want to put the word “Relax” on the glass. A quick search in Cricut Design Space showed a really nice “Relax” in a pretty script font.
If you don’t have a Cricut Explore, you can use the Splish Splash Cricut Cartridge to cut it.
I cut it in light gray adhesive vinyl and applied it to the glass using application tape.
