Handmade Butterfly Card Using Delicious Doodle Digistamp

May 9, 2014 by Pam Larmore 16 Comments

Who doesn’t love a beautiful Handmade Butterfly Card?  The design for this card is simple, but the outcome is stunning.

The Elegant Edges Cricut Cartridge seems to sneak it’s way into lots of my cards lately.  It cuts great shapes, perfect for stamped or digi images.

Handmade Butterfly Card Using a digi stamp from Delicious Doodles. The stamp was colored with Copic Markers. The shape was cut using the Elegant Edges Cricut Cartridge. I added Prima flowers and adhesive pearls. Stop by this site to see more awesome cards!

How I Made This Handmade Butterfly Card

To make the most of the wonderful shapes that it offers, I print the digistamp onto white X-Press It cardstock.  Before coloring the image, I use the Centerpoint feature on the Cricut Expressions.

Have you ever used this feature?  I do a test cut first on scrap paper to make sure I have the shape the size I want it.  Then I place my digistamp onto my Cricut mat, using the arrows to put the blade over the center of the image.  You can use the measurements on your Cricut mat and the measurements that show on your screen to find the center.  I usually eye ball it.

When cutting shapes around your digistamps using the Cricut, make sure you have left enough room around the image.  Always cut the shape before coloring your image in case you make a boo boo.  It would be horrible to ruin an image after you’ve spent so much time coloring it!

This beautiful digistamp is one of my favorites.  It is from Delicious Doodles.  I colored it with Copic Markers, which I love using.  I have signed up for an online Copic class with Kit and Clowder, but I colored this before I started the class.  I didn’t write down the colors that I used…..I need to get better at that.

The papers I used are from the Butterfly Garden DCWV stack.  I love the pink and green combination.  I added Prima flowers in layers and embellished them with adhesive pearls in the centers.

I made the card below, before I had thought about using the Elegant Edges Cricut Cartridge.  After my ah-hah moment, I made another card.  I really like the one with the fancy edges.

Spring has finally arrived here in Maryland, USA!  I have seen the first butterflies and hummingbirds this week, and I’ve bought lots of flowers to plant in the yard and even a few herbs and vegetable plants.  I figured this was the perfect time to use this great digi.

I hope a Handmade Butterfly Card is on your crafting To Do List soon!

They’re both really gorgeous! I love how the colors in the flowers match the butterflies.
As for writing down which markers you use, I’ve seen some crafters just take a picture of them. That seems easier!

Anyway, thank you for linking your beautiful cards to our Mothers’ Day challenge at Cut it Up!

This image is so pretty and you colored it so beautifully. It doesn’t look like you need classes, lol. I love the soft colors. Thanks for the instructions on the center point cut. I haven’t used that feature. Thanks for joining us at BBTB2.
