It’s great having a stash of handmade birthday cards ready at all times, instead of having to make a mad dash to the Hallmark Store.  If you have kids that are invited to every birthday party for every child they’ve ever known throughout their school years, you know exactly what I’m talking about!

Here are some Handmade Card Designs to give you some ideas.

There is a wide array of tools and supplies available for making birthday cards.  It is so much fun!

Sesame Street and Friends Cricut Birthday Cards - Big Bird, Elmo, and Cookie Monster

Handmade birthday greetings can be funny, serious, feminine, masculine, artsy, or folksy.

There are so many wonderful birthday themed supplies available.  I used a paper stack called Birthday Wishes by Die Cuts With A View to make these fun Sesame Street Cards. The bright colors are great for kids’ birthday cards.

Monkey Cricut Birthday Card using Create A Critter Cricut Cartridge

I often make Cricut Birthday Cards.  I like using a cutting machine to cut all of the pieces.  By adding pop dots and lots of layers, you can create stunning greeting cards.  This Monkey Cricut Card will be loved by any little boy!

Masculine Birthday Cards can be a challenge!  I combined a motorcycle rubber stamp, a Happy Birthday embossed backgrounds, and accent Cricut stars to create this Harley Davidson birthday card for a close friend who rides.  It was for his 50th Birthday, and he loved it!  This would be an awesome handmade card for your boyfriend if he rides motorcycles.

This yellow lab card has some different embellishments on it.  My scrapping friend, Shirley had TONS of burlap, bone shaped buttons, and dog bone ribbon.  They were the perfect accents for this card that I gave a relative who has a beloved yellow lab.

This butterfly birthday card that I made is 6″x 6″.  That is an odd size, but I have really started to enjoy making square cards.  It would be a beautiful handmade card for you Mom or a close friend.

Many times when you make the traditional A2 size card, you really don’t have room for any large images, or beautifully patterned papers are hidden.

The biggest problem with square cards is making sure you can find envelopes for them.  Square envelopes are available in lots of sizes, but they may be difficult to find.

There are tons of card making techniques to try when creating handmade birthday cards.  The card above uses specialty markers called Copics to create the blended background.   Birthday greetings don’t have to be covered with balloons, confetti, and cake.  A card in a theme that the recipient loves is also great.

Handmade birthday cards can have a traditional Happy Birthday message or something “punny” like “Happy Bird-day”.  Since homemade greeting cards are completely customizable, you can add milestone greetings like Happy 43rd Birthday!

Wild Rose Studio Ella with Presents Stamp - Ella the Elephant so so cute, and she's delivering presents to celebrate someone's birthday!

This elephant comes bearing presents and sends Birthday wishes.  I loved this card and sent it to my Mother-in-law.

Hello Kitty Cricut cartridge cupcake birthday cards

Cupcakes with cherries on top are more traditional than some of my other handmade birthday greeting cards. I combined patterned papers and a die cut cupcake to create this card.

Jungle Cricut Card uses lots of different Cricut Cartridges. Visit the post to see the list and sizes. Cricut Explore cut file is also included in the post. I need to make this for my nephew!

A special 3rd birthday celebration calls for a special Jungle card!  This card doesn’t say Happy Birthday on it, but it’s perfect for a little guy.

Penny Black rubber stamps hedgehog birthday card

This hedgehog delivering a flower bouquet is also delivering well wishes for a birthday.  This homemade card doesn’t have to be for a birthday, but adding a Happy Birthday stamp to it makes it ready for the party!

Tri fold shutter card for Mom

Homemade Birthday Greeting Cards don’t have to have to the traditional folded shape.  Here is a unique Shutter Card.   I gave this card to my Mom for Mother’s Day, but it would have been perfect for her birthday as well.

Your cards are all so fabulous! I don’t think I can choose just one that I like more than the others. They all show just how much you care for the recipient. Hugs, Maggie
